April 5th, 1991: The resilient spirit of the people of #Kurdistan defied the tyranny of the Ba'ath regime, leading to intl. intervention and birth of #OPC #SafeHaven under #UNSCR688 . We honor all the victims of the #exodus .

In 1991, UNSC Resolution 688 galvanized an international coalition to save our people from genocide.

Today, 33 years later, our rights and hard-won gains remain vulnerable. The intl community must continue to safeguard Kurdistan, its peoples and rights.

44 years ago, the Genocide campaign plunged history into darkness, targeting 12,000 #Fayli Kurds by the Ba'ath regime. Forcibly expelled, executed and stripped citizenship from tens of thousands. In solemn tribute, we honor the memory of all the martyrs of Kurdistan.

We honor the memory of the victims of the Feyli Kurds genocide, who were killed in a horrific wave because they were Kurdish and supported the Kurdistani revolution.

It is past time for the federal government to compensate the families.

Today, Nechirvan Barzani Nechirvan Barzani met with Major General Joel Vowell, the Commander of Operation Inherent Resolve. They discussed the importance of combatting the ongoing threat from ISIS, sustaining military coordination, and maintaining the momentum on Peshmerga reforms.

Today marks the 44th anniversary of the #Fayli #Genocide — a painful reminder of the horrors Kurds have endured under authoritarian regimes. We honor the innocent victims and seek justice and compensation for the crimes committed against this community.

• Invite international electoral monitors/observers to secure a fair, credible and transparent process

We also agreed to tackle the roadblocks in ways that protect the democratic process and stability of the Kurdistan Region.

In my exchange with SRSG Jeanine Hennis, I made clear that we:

• Fully support free, fair and credible elections removed from constitutional violations and interference

• Need respect for the KRI as a federal entity and for the ethnic, religious and national groups in it
