Talking to the men who got to watch the eclipse from prison yesterday was a gift—their joy and gratitude was overwhelming. But hearing from those who were stuck inside on lockdown during this wild event that unified so many of us on the outside was heartbreaking.

I love my job, and I am deeply passionate about reporting on higher education in Austin, but Austin Statesman needs a fair contract from Gannett to support a sustainable newsroom that keeps producing needed service and accountability journalism. I am on strike with Austin NewsGuild.

Here’s what Austin Statesman journalists WON’T be covering this weekend because Gannett refuses to pay them a living wage:
