Before 'cancel culture' there was 'PC culture'. Both phrases are tools of collective gaslighting to delegitimize victims of abuse and oppression to maintain (or worsen) the status quo.

Yes. If you find yourself rolling into comments to criticize folks trying to make this industry better in any way they can, turn that energy into your own action. There’s more than enough work to do and we need it all. Overt covert online in the streets explicit anonymous ALL.

“Interesting how the theater publications picked up that K O (they/them) wasn’t returning to Moulin Rouge The Musical - Broadway in LESS THAN AN HOUR. And needed to be called out into publicizing ANYTHING about the abuse that human beings suffered at the hands of Scott Rudin' -- Eden Espinosa (she, her).

“Sure, something is shifting,” says Ken-Matt Martin, the new artistic director at Victory Gardens Theater, “but you’re also talking about highly qualified people getting jobs that they’re more than qualified for.” nyti.ms/3xeAvjx

There is no such thing as security in show business. Nothing has taught us this more strongly than the pandemic. Believing your silence is somehow protecting you is the result of the abuse you’ve suffered. You can do it. Speak up.

The theatre industry conditioning to stay silent for fear of opportunities is so ingrained that I have to mentally beat it down every time I speak out regarding advocacy. So yeah, I’m still nervous when I tweet or post but at least I can sleep at night.

Saying “that’s just the way our industry is...” won’t stop people from harm. We deserve better especially those who NEED to work. The fiscally vulnerable are most likely to be taken advantage of. My paycheck is not more important than someone’s safety.
