KELLY BRYSON & ELLIE GALUSHA
Two of the student peer buddies involved last week at Phillipsburg Athletics Inclusion Week and Unified Basketball Game. I was reminded that there are great kids everywhere in this area, even across the state line. Listen for the loud in the background.
THE LOUDEST I WAS IN
If I brought back the Kegger Awards & gave one out for loudest gym this school year, Phillipsburg Athletics would win for last Friday’s Unified Game which capped Inclusion Week. Here I am with coordinator Karen Stangl. Stood 3 feet away and could barely hear her.
THE PLAYER OF THE YEAR
One last interview — at least at Parkland —with The Morning Call player of the year, Nick Coval. And the accolades aren’t over for him. The all-state team will be released at 12:01 am tonight (Weds morning officially) and I have a hunch he’ll be listed somewhere.
TEAM OF THE YEAR VIDEO
The four Parkland Boys Basketball senior starters not named Nick Coval talk about how great the 2023-24 season was for the Trojans. Luke Spang, Jayden Thomas, Zaire Smaltz, and Robbie Ruisch. Can’t believe it’s already a month tomorrow since the last game.
COACH OF THE YEAR
Continuing the boys basketball all-area interviews, here was the Coach of the Year, Eddie Ohlson of Parkland Boys Basketball.
ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
It was Blake Nassry of Parkland Boys Basketball. Here was my interview with Blake.
ALL-AREA ADDS
We had an oversight, a brain freeze, a senior moment -- call it what you want -- and now have added two deserving Lehighton Basketball 🏀 players to the all-area squad. Cole Dietz and Joe Roth are now on the 3rd team and bring the total of honorees to 56.
BOYS BASKETBALL ALL-AREA PLAYERS OF THE YEAR
Three players from Parkland Boys Basketball are on the first team. ACCHS, Pocono 🏔 West Basketball, Liberty Hurricanes Boys Basketball, and Executive Raptors Basketball also had 3 honorees overall among the 54 players saluted:

CALLING ALL SPORTS
Broadcasting legend Bob Daday is our special guest on Fox Sports Radio 94.7FM & 1230AM (9 to 11 this morning) as he promotes an upcoming Neil Diamond show at the Roxy in Northampton and talks about old times. Plus, Chuck Hixson talks about current scene in local HS sports.
SO GLAD HE STAYED
In an era of free agency in HS sports, @boysparkland star Nick Coval could have gone elsewhere. Instead, he stayed home and had one of the greatest careers in school and Lehigh Valley history. He's the The Morning Call player of the year.

SAGE ADVICE
One last one from NW TIGER SOFTBALL’s win last night at Pates. Senior Sage Toman is supposed to be the quiet one but I thought she was one of the best interviews I have had this spring. She wasn’t wishy-washy that’s for sure.

EMMA FREEMAN
One of the area’s best pitchers and one of last year’s The Morning Call rookies of the year didn't start Friday night for NW TIGER SOFTBALL but came on in relief and got the last 10 outs in a 14-7 win over Wilson. Tigers now 12-1.

LILY KINNON
The NW TIGER SOFTBALL sophomore had three RBIs including a two-run single late that helped her team put away Wilson 14-7 Friday night at Pates Park.

KATE FARBER
NW TIGER SOFTBALL is 12-1 and unbeaten in the Colonial League. First-year coach Kate Farber said there’s still room for improvement. She also helped me sort through a plethora of player of the week candidates.
TIGER TALE
The final out of tonight’s NW TIGER SOFTBALL’s 14-7 Colonial League win over Wilson Area at Patriots Park as the Tigers improve to 12-1.

FINISHING STRONG
Both Lehigh Football and Lafayette Football have had productive spring practice sessions, and both the Mountain Hawks and Leopards want to wrap up the spring with impressive showings on Saturday, a few miles and a few hours apart.

UNIFIED BASKETBALL GAME
Loved this event today at Phillipsburg Athletics. Great concept to bring everyone together to cap the school’s week. Student body loved it. Lots of smiles everywhere. Story coming later but I wanted to get out some of the sights and sounds of a great day.
