I join so many around the world in mourning the passing of Judith Heumann, a civil rights and disability rights icon, a pioneer within the State Department, and a beloved colleague. Judy leaves behind a world that—because of her relentless efforts—is more inclusive for all.

Judy Heumann is gone, and it’s keeping me awake.

Judy taught me to never settle. To block out the noise. To take up space. To prioritize family and to text the cute guy. To never second guess my power. To dream bigger when I thought my dreams were already plenty big.
