This is an absolutely stunning, heart-wrenching story of NT Indigenous rangersโ€™ experience of climate change along our coastline.

We should be doing all we can to protect these precious places, but instead we are pursuing mass fossil fuel expansion here.

Last year's fires in the Northern Territory burnt ~43 million ha!! But not as big as the 2011 fire season ~56 million or 2001 - 48 million. The La Nina cycle link to fuel and fires is evident in the graph:

The NT Govt backflipped on a proposed net zero policy to address massive Beetaloo fracking emissions after the gas industry - Santos, Inpex - objected.

They only consulted the gas industry. They see nothing wrong with this. This is how it works here.

Traditional Owners have travelled 5000km to Parliament House to unveil a simply extraordinary 13 metre long map of the songlines and cultural places that make up the Roper River in the NT, under threat from fracking, cotton and mining.

Itโ€™s time for those in power to listen.

This animation shows the 60Okm spread of one fire though the GSD Sept-Oct. What is remarkable is how effective previous burns where att stopping this fire. It managed to find gaps but it points to the need for more and longer term application of fire.

Just why are Australia's tropical savannas so damn precious?

Why should we do everything possible to protect them, not frack & clear them?

Here's one Brett Murphy and I prepared many moons ago, it's still just as relevant today!

Dear Tanya Plibersek,
Please read this & then commit to fully protecting what remains of Binybara ( ). Culture, critical habitat & wildlife need not be destroyed for defence housing, suitable alternatives exist. Please listen to community. theconversation.com/another-assaulโ€ฆ.

Lee Point/Binybara is emerging as a litmus test for the Albanese Government not only on its commitment to halt extinctions, but also to First Nations rights.

The eyes of millions are on our exquisite part of the world.

This is on you, Tanya Plibersek. Knowingly destroying threatened species habitat and an area of cultural significance to First Nations Peoples, against the wishes of local community. You canโ€™t spin your way out of this abomination.

This is actually insulting to our intelligence, to ecological understanding, to conservation biology, but most of all, to Gouldian finches, black-footed tree rats, and other wildlife that call this precious, high-quality habitat home.

A flock of the most BEAUTIFUL Gouldian Finches on a tree at Lee Point & the same tree a matter of days later.๐Ÿ˜ก

This happened at the end of last year and in a matter of days the rest of the habitat will be destroyed.๐Ÿšœ
It is so depressing Tanya Plibersek has allowed this.
