This piece of Viking Age cloth from the Lendbreen pass has some of the original blue colour preserved. And even better: One of the edges has preserved knotted tassels. This is a very rare detail on Viking Age textile, and the only example from our melting mountain ice.

Feel privileged to have seen pages from this 1937 Schiaparelli album MAD Paris ‘Shocking!’ exhibition last year. I literally gasped, this design was visually so beautiful

From our archives comes this very rare needlework instruction book, with samples of sewing, darning, embroidery, knitting, and miniature clothing, used at the Female Model school in Kildare Place, Dublin. The cover is inscribed 'Sarah Darby 1837'

In the 2nd century BC a woman was placed in a bog in Huldremosen, Denmark.
When her remains were found her clothing was in remarkable condition.
Yes these clothes are over 2000 years old but the peat gave them this brownish colour.

I’ve been dyeing with madder (Rubia tinctoria). The roots are one of the oldest known dyes and they can dye a range of warmer shades from pink and coral through to deep red and purple. 1/2

Westminster Abbey, where the coronation of King Charles III will take place this year.
The throne used for every coronation since 1308, built to hold the stone of scone. The stone of scone, or stone of destiny, is a symbol of Scotland's monarchy.

So sad. I used to love American Girl books/dolls. Why can’t they teach girls that it’s okay to have masculine qualities and still be a girl? There are so many tomboys at the age this book is marketed to. They will just confuse girls with these statements. I hope it’s not true.
