Just thinking about what our beloved Senator Ted Kennedy would have to say about all this… You know he would be talking about those 234 Trump lifetime appointments to the federal judiciary & what’s at stake for the courts.

Thank you, DOJ, for new & updated voting rights guidance in plain language that can help voters report discrimination & enforce their rights. And the one-stop website will make all the helpful resources easier to find & use.

No one should be fooled about this race. “Hogan’s campaign is already drawing support from …prominent Republican donors like Harlan Crow, the Texas billionaire who was thrust into headlines because of his close relationship with Justice Clarence Thomas.” washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2024/…

An exceedingly rare but very welcomed win in SCOTUS today for victims of employment discrimination. Even a broken clock gets it right twice a day… washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/…

6 of the 12 judges on the Eleventh Circuit (which covers GA, AL & FL) are Trump appointees. Never forget the devastating harm that Trump has inflicted upon our federal courts, particularly in the South where most voting rights cases are heard.

Working all day & just tuning into Trump jury selection. Wow—2 of 7 jurors seated are lawyers. Might have predicted that in DC where many lawyers appear in jury pool & some are selected to serve but wasn’t expecting that in NY. Remember that lawyers can be eminently fair, too.

On Monday, the Supreme Court effectively eliminated the right to hold a Black Lives Matter protest in three US states.

On Tuesday, the same justices were very, very afraid that January 6 insurrectionists are being treated unfairly.

“Abortion rights advocates have reason to be hopeful: Since decision to overturn Roe, every ballot measure that has sought to preserve or expand abortion access has been successful, while those that have sought to restrict abortion access have failed.” washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/…

We’re about to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which banned employment discrimination & promoted equal employment opportunity everywhere. At the institutions where we are educating our kids, we can do so much better than this.

Great to see all these fabulous voting rights advocates & especially Daniel Hessel, who was my former intern at Legal Defense Fund DC office when he was—wait for it—just in high school. He was a civil rights prodigy & so glad he has made the most of his early start in seeking equal justice.

Instead of fear-mongering about a problem that simply does not exist, what if Congress advanced our democracy by passing the trifecta of voting rights bills: John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, Freedom to Vote Act & Native American Voting Rights Act. npr.org/2024/04/12/124…

'Federal judge rules Miami redistricting plans ‘unconstitutionally racially gerrymandered'.'
We must elect a Congress to pass the to stop rampant racial gerrymandering that disenfranchises voters of color & undermines democracy.
