I’m thrilled to announce that we have selected 16 stellar individuals to join the inaugural edition of HISA’s Next Generation Advisory Group. I look forward to collaborating with them on safeguarding the future of horseracing.

We’re incredibly proud of the hard work and progress made by HIWU in 2023. This report is the most transparent and comprehensive sharing of information that the industry has seen and shows that our ADMC program is making a real difference in promoting the integrity of the sport.

I am incredibly proud of the work that the HISA has done over the past year. Cooperation among all our stakeholders is paramount, and our inaugural Annual Metrics Report highlights the many accomplishments of HISA’s Racetrack Safety Program over the past 12 months.

This progress being led by the three major sales companies is a huge testament to what can happen when the industry works together to put the welfare of horses first. We are thrilled with their announcement today.

Lots going on at HISA as we continue to collaborate with the entire industry to advance safety and integrity. Catch up on all the great progress we’ve made over the last month in our newsletter.

Nothing is more important to HISA than driving down the rate of equine fatalities in Thoroughbred racing. I am encouraged to see HISA’s rate trending in the right direction, but there is much work to be done. We will continue to work diligently to raise the bar for safety.

Thank you to David O’Rourke and NYRA (🗽) for launching the All-Weather Surfaces Committee and advancing the discussion of how to improve equine safety. This committee’s work will be essential in deepening our understanding of all-weather surfaces.

Congress requires HISA to fund robust and rigorous scientific research on the use of furosemide. We’re excited to announce the 3 worthy projects that have been selected for funding. Learnings from these projects will be used to inform science-driven rules on the use of Lasix.

First month of 2024 in the books for HISA. We look forward to another year of working with racing participants to improve and enhance safety and integrity in the sport.
