Thanks to whoever recommended Emma Smith’s ‘The Great Western Beach’ to me - it’s a detailed and appropriately immersive account of a between- the-wars childhood in Newquay - and there’s a reference in it to this absolutely extraordinary house. cornwallheritage.com/youtube-social…

How can any teen make an informed decision on the long-term effects of a treatment that has barely been researched by the very people who prescribe it?

Lissa Evans 'A spiralling interventionist approach, in the context of an evidence void, amounted to overmedicalising care for vulnerable young people'

This is from the British Medical Journal. It's short, written with great clarity & leaves me with one overriding question: how can people who care about children & adolescents possibly support the continued medicalisation of 'gender dysphoria?

is from 'Mrs Noah's Pockets' (Story by Jackie Morris, 2017).

One of my favourite illustrations, featuring a sunken city. Rather prophetic as my next book will also feature a sunken city - the story of Ys.

This is a very helpful explanation of the normal research protocols that the Cass Report attempted and failed to find, and why it had to dismiss almost all the specious research on which treatment was being based.

Salute to Richard at Kentish Town Library, who sorted out my expired library card, gave me a new pin no, looked up a book I wanted, signed it out and date stamped it. Calm, funny, capable, proactive: everything a librarian should be. Feel free to salute your fave librarian here!

today it’s “Mouse and Mole: Clink, Clank, Clunk”. Mouse is trying to read in the hammock. What is that terrible noise? Another great tale in the on going series by Joyce Dunbar (2023).

Ink line, watercolour wash, coloured pencil.

@BBCnews @bbc4pm This has got to stop. The includes rigorous scientific study of existing scientific literature and finds it wanting. Interviewing a trans journalist with no notable scientific or medical qualification who disgrees is not 'balance'. 1/2

The reasons the clinics have for not co-operating with the Cass report are mind-boggling. “We’re not going to supply you with data for your research because we think you’re going to criticise us.” P.303 of the full report.

I listen to loads of audiobooks but am guilty of focusing on new releases so this year I’m trying to include backlist titles I’ve missed/revisit favourites. I could do a whole thread on this (maybe I will soon!) but for now here are six I’ve loved & thoroughly recommend 🎧📚

“No guidance, no evidence, and no training …” Cass tells justin webb in a powerful interview why children were wholesaled into GIDS by GPs nervous about not affirming their young patients’ delusions.

On the toxicity issue raised by Dr Cass this morning, it's worth repeating: no major publisher would touch Hannah's book in spite of the fact that it was approved by the BBC as a piece of impartial reporting
