Come and say hello to Rangers Karima and Lizzie at the HOS Members' Day and AGM in Winchester today. It's great to collaborate with awesome organisations like Hampshire Ornithological Society, on positive ways to raise awareness of coastal birds to help minimise disturbance 😀

🔥Heat wave in Antarctica, +38 °C (+68 °F) above normal.

That's not an error, or a typo.

The remote research station at Dome C recorded a temperature nearly 40 °C above normal for this time of year, beating the previous March record by a startling 20 °C.

A perfect example of an oystercatcher that prefers food in rocky areas over grassland. Oycs can change their bill shape in 10 days as they grow around 0.4mm a day! That's 4x faster than human fingernails.

Quite a 'moment'! Seeing marine conservation looking quite so tangible, and all the happy, smiling, muddy volunteers, students and staff were such a joy to work with! Can we all, please, collectively will those seeds to grow!

Have you been doing the same coastal Wetland Bird Survey survey for 30 years?
Some of the individual you see this weekend may have been included in your 1992 count ...
... and they won't appear to have aged at all!

No place for to roost? See this link👇
There's a blog about the importance of roost sites (energetics etc):

We are incredibly lucky to have thousands of Geese from the Arctic spend half the year in the very heart of our capital city!

It is absolutely disgusting that anyone goes through this sort of harrassment, let alone someone who is trying to protect our countryside and the wildlife who live there... If you are a National Trust member, please vote for the motion to end trail hunting on NT land 🙏

Have you seen our new harbour seal mural near the Lord Louis Library? The artwork is the latest of six marine murals being painted by ATM. Our Secrets of the Solent project commissioned the paintings to highlight and celebrate the wildlife in our local waters.

A moment of order in an otherwise chaotic sanderling flock. I hadn't shared this photo yet, but it's one of my favourites from that day in February. The alignment lasted a split second, but it was just long enough for the camera to capture it.

USA govt plans to spray 26 million acres of Montana grassland with insecticides from planes to kill native grasshoppers (& countless billions of other insects as collateral damage). Madness. Will we ever realize we are part of nature?
