This is worth reading: an allexcellent piece by a fantastic writer. The helplessness he describes in the face of how the UK system operates begs a question: if an educated novelist is helpless in the face of this system, what about people who are still more vulnerable?

If I was doing a reading at a salon series I would say that the person who read before me was evil and that they had a great sickness inside of them which we must collectively try to forget.
