This is why discussions are so crucial. Kid reads below grade level? Have them talk about their text. Kid doesn't read English fluently? Have them talk about their text. Kid hates the content, isn't motivated, blah blah blah? Have them talk about their text.

One of the best experiences of #AMLE50 was finding out the NJHS rep's kid was one of my former students from 5 years ago! And...and...when Mom texted a selfie, the student said they still remembered how much they enjoyed my class! 😍😭
