Collared elephant Polaris was crop raiding inside fenced in farms and due to the flooding in the Mara, rangers were unable to respond on the ground. MEP deployed the helicopter to push Polaris back to safety.

Recently, the MEP rangers deployed a drone to move collared elephant Matali and his herd away from fenced farms where they were crop raiding. They used the drone to herd them back to safety sparing most of the farmer’s crops. Drones are a critical conflict response tool.

MEP deploys 3 ranger teams to work with the community to protect the Loita Forest. Recently, MEP CEO Marc Goss conducted an aerial monitoring flight to detect habitat destruction inside the forest. Luckily, during this reconnaissance flight, the area patrolled was clear.

Mara Elephant Project was first on the scene this week when excessive rainfall caused the Talek River to burst flooding 14 camps and leaving staff and tourists stranded.

MEP deployed the Elephant Cooperation drone to aerially monitor collared elephant Gina in the Shimba Hills. During the monitoring operation, she and her herd were noted to be in good health and the collar was in good condition.

This week the Mara Elephant Project helicopter monitored collared elephants Audrey and Indy together in a herd of over 50 individuals. Audrey’s young calf is growing up and they were both noted to be healthy, and their collars were in working condition.

TMEP rangers deployed a drone to aerially monitor collared elephants Polaris and Kiambi, found in the same herd. These bulls often move together and are tracked 24/7 to inform ranger deployments in the high conflict area they call home.
