through phlegm and vocal cords
until it is choked into a dull rasp
that bristles the cilia of my ear

the black tone and whiff of alcohol
communicate more than the words
which are clipped and thin, terse
each separated from meaning

I only think I’ll miss the birds and their seasonal music. Their notes a singing clock. But I won’t be able to miss them. I’ll become them. The grass underfoot and overhead. Beautiful songs have endings but are rarely forgotten. At one, but never dead. #satsplat

We pass Smokestack Town, our mammoth watched by guards.

“They called us, Neanderthals,” my daughter says. “Why?”

“Because they fear Gaia’s gift of change.”

“Why?”

“They seek to resurrect their past in isolation.”

“Why?”

“Because humans have no future.”

Kaya explained I first needed to exercise my “mind muscle,” as she described it, and identify telepathically the light in my mind that represented the subject whose behavior I wanted to #manipulate . If there were several beings in the room, it could be tricky.
