In an increasingly dangerous and contested world, we need to spend more on defence.

This government has overseen the largest sustained increase in defence spending since the end of the Cold War and now we are increasing our defence budget to 2.5% of GDP.

🚨🇬🇧 BREAKING: Rishi Sunak announces the UK will increase defence spending to 2.5% of GDP.

In a world of increasing threats, the Conservatives will ensure this country always stands up for British interests, deters our enemies and defends our values.

These tragedies have to stop.

I will not accept a status quo which costs so many lives.

This Government is doing everything we can to end this trade, stop the boats and ultimately break the business model of the evil people smuggling gangs, so they no longer put lives at risk.

We’ve seen a worrying trend in our welfare system.

More and more people are being written off work unnecessarily, and spending is growing at an unsustainable rate.

So we’re doing something about it🧵

Just 10 days ago the state pension increased by £900 as part of our triple lock guarantee.

We introduced the triple lock, we’ve always backed it and we will always back pensioners.

Under Labour pensions rose by just 75p one year and pensioner poverty was through the roof.

Not only was Iran's reckless attack a total failure, but they've revealed to the world their true nature as the malign influence in the region.

Today, alongside the US, we are sanctioning leading Iranian military figures and entities as we continue to hold the regime to account.

Iran’s attack last night was a dangerous and unnecessary escalation.

I want to pay tribute to the professionalism and bravery of the Royal Air Force and our allies in protecting civilians.

Thanks to the hard work of NHS staff, today's stats show we are continuing to make progress on waiting lists.

This represents the biggest 5-month fall in over 10 years outside the pandemic.

Much more to do but we will stick to our plan to cut waiting lists.

Our Dentistry Plan is now delivering with nearly 500 more practices across England accepting new adult patients compared to the end of January.

Ignore the naysayers - we are getting on with delivering for you. 🦷🇬🇧

This from Matt is spot on.

It doesn't matter if it's eco warriors climbing on Rishi Sunak's roof or these Palestinan protestors outside Keir Starmer's house - their actions are completely unacceptable, and deeply corrosive to democracy:

ULEZ was just the start.

17 times Sadiq Khan said he wanted to do per mile charging, with sources.

It’ll hurt working people. Massively increase the cost of living. Devastating families.

Voting Conservative on 2nd May is the only way to stop him.

📈Growth at a ‘turning point’ as UK economy gains momentum📈

‘Two separate economic surveys strike an upbeat tone this morning, suggesting that the UK has emerged from recession and the economy is generating increasing momentum.’

Croydon Labour STILL cannot be trusted. 🥀

Meanwhile, despite the financial mess left by Labour, Conservatives get on with the job of moving Croydon forward. ✅

Labour: 'the Conservatives childcare expansion won't work...we need to move away from the hours model...we'll have a childcare plan like the creation of the NHS'.

Reality: Labour still have no plan.

And as 150,000 children begin to benefit from ours, the contrast is clear 👇

‘The UK has made a stronger start to the year than advanced economies around the globe. A strong start to the year has been fuelled by falling inflation. A strong labour market has kept wage growth high. Households have seen a boost to their real income.’

Zero accountability. Zero respect.

Croydon Labour:

🥀 Bankrupted the Council
🥀 Weakened frontline services for the least well off
🥀 Cannot be trusted to choose their candidates without corruption

On the other hand, Local Conservatives fight to keep Croydon moving forward.
