If you’ve walked near Battleston Hill recently, you may have spotted the tall Paulownia fortunei Fast Blue ('Minfast').

Its lilac-blue flowers can be seen from afar but just take a look at the delicate detail seen up close here.

Have you seen the display in the Trials Garden?

It’s a trial of 80 varieties, all either lily-flowered or fringed tulips. To be granted the Award of Garden Merit (AGM), judges will be looking for flower form, impact and uniformity, as well as weather and pest resistance.

Actually rather nice to have a spring that’s not bone dry (in the SE anyway), just feels tiresome after such a wet winter!

New purchase- Taraxacum pseudoroseanum- one for a pot and one to naturalise in turf. If I’ve got to have dandelions- well, let them be pink….

Eucalyptus dalrympleana, also known as the mountain gum or white gum. It's clear to see how this beautiful tree gets the latter name.

Glowing today on Battleston Hill RHS Garden Wisley

The new Summerhouse in Oakwood, the historic heart of RHS Wisley, opened today. The structure has been installed to pay homage to horticultural icon Ellen Willmott, who spearheaded the acquisition of Oakwood by the RHS, which would go on to become RHS Wisley as we know it today.

Very impressive mahonia Windsor Great Park and not one I’ve seen before. It’s Mahonia Bokrafoot and looks like a hugely improved aquifolium type. Apparently lots of blue berries later!

In studies of the flowering phenology of Japanese Cherries these two mark the middle of the 'Mid' season. Prunus 'Kanzan' (left) flowers just before P. avium 'Plena'. Things like P. x yedoensis and P. 'Shirotate' are distant memories now.
