I found this stereo system in a prop house earlier today and suddenly I was 9 years old again.

Between physical media and housing, this has to be marking a continuing devolution of consumerism wherein the consumer's capital is locked out of purchasing physical ownership.

'Sundance movie' meant stuff like BLOOD SIMPLE, GAS FOOD LODGING, EL MARIACHI, STRANGERS IN PARADISE, what have you. Sort of outsider weirdos making punk rock movies. Who knows. Maybe I'm just getting old & grumpy. But 'indie film' generally feels a bit safe & solemn right now.

Here's my pitch for a new location for the Sundance Film Festival: anywhere that's not a ritzy vacation destination for rich people. Force industry types to get outside their bubble. Maybe then independent film can mean something other than 'niche art by & for the affluent.'

What is going on here. What happened.

i should note i think it’s bad for actors and writers alike. actors didn’t consent to have their identity and voice used in that way. writers who created those characters and their scripts didn’t write those lines but if people think they did? that’s also a problem

but using someone’s voice or work without permission in this way to the point that a casual observer cannot discern between what is real or fake is dangerous imo

i recall an old Adult Swim podcast with Dana Snyder (Master Shake), who claimed to be paid $200 per session as a voice actor for early Aqua Teen Hunger Force. apparently he had the flu once and was so afraid of getting fired he recorded an entire episode while lying on the floor

Chicagoans will see this and want to avoid the film. We know what our city looks like, what message is A24 sending by publishing A.I. imitations that would get a true artist fired had they made these mistakes? The Marina City towers should be next to each other.
