Precisely. It is absurd that the need to reduce fossil fuel has not been front and centre of at least the last 10 COPs. The emperor really has been strutting down the street naked for a long time now and it is interesting to see who is and who is not able to see it and say it.

Here's my view on COP28. If anyone thinks I've missed some positives, please let me know.

For perspective, the total Loss and Damages fund of $700m secured for developing nations o ensure a workable transition for the whole of the developing world, works out at less than a penny per day for every Bangladeshi - if no one else gets anything at all.

A 'Landmark summit' in as much never has the corruption by vested interests been so absolute.

This agreement 'takes aim directly at fossil fuel interests' .... and makes sure it misses.

The most depressing thing for me about the COP28 agreement is the extent to which it is being swallowed. How naive can we be? The fossil fuel industry will be dancing in celebration at this permission to carry on without restraint.

COP28 is a complete sham. Any media source that does not expose this with absolute clarity is unfit and any politician likewise.

This is nonsense. Why isn’t the BBC calling it out as utter BS?!
1) Renewables do us no good unless they replace fossil fuel. 2) 2050 is way too late unless huge cuts are made right now. 3) emissions from extracting are trivial compared to from burning bbc.co.uk/news/science-e…

SAF is a misnomer.
Net emissions are indeed lower. But high altitude warming effects are identical. And if the very limited supply of waste oil is used here, it can’t replace fossil fuel elsewhere. And other biofuels create hideous pressure on land. theguardian.com/business/2023/…
