Georgia beat North Carolina in Syracuse to advance to the Final Four. The Bulldogs lost to N.C. State 67-60 in the national semifinals. That Georgia team, led by Vern Fleming, James Banks and others, was damn good. It was also the year AFTER Dominique Wilkins left.

When asked about the best team that didn't win a national championship, a number of folks went with 1974 Maryland, which didn't even make the NCAA Tournament because only one team (N.C. State) went from the ACC: John Lucas, Tom McMillen, Len Elmore, Mo Howard. Wow!!!!!

Abolutely thrilled for my friend Chris Stewart, the voice of the Crimson Tide. He has had an incredible person journey to the Final Four. Enjoy every minute of it, Chris.

Here's a question for the group: It can be argued that 1983 Houston, the team NC State Men's Basketball beat to win it all, was the best college basketball team to never win a national championship. Agree? Disagree? Then give me another team. UNLV 1991 wasn't bad.

Easily one of my top five moments of being a sportswriter. When Lorenzo Charles dunked the ball, I jumped out of my chair and watched the celebration for a couple of minutes. Then I looked at my watch. I had 20 minutes to make my first deadline. Thanks for sharing, Dan Wetzel

It has been so much fun watching NC State Men's Basketball make this increbile run to the Final Four. I was in Albuquerque in 1983 when when Jim Valvano's 'Cardiac Pack' beat Houston for the national championship. Can this team do the same? Absolutely.

Congrats to Manny Diaz, Georgia's Hall of Fame tennis coach, who announced his retirement at the end of the 2023-24 season. He was a great player for Coach Dan Magill and after 36 seasons is the all-time winner in SEC tennis history. 29 SEC championships and four national titles.

Maria and I are proud to be in Macon this weekend as our dear friend, Claude Felton, is inducted into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame. We are so happy for Claude and Cathy. No one deserves it more.

High on my list of great memories is March 11, 1984, when Lefty Driessel held court with a handful of sports writers underneath the stands of the Greensboro Coliseum. He had just won his first ACC Tournament. And he beat Duke to do it. Lefty was an American original. RIP.

Does SEC-Big Ten Alliance mean that college football is headed to a crossroad? Maybe. But this we know: Something has got to change because what we have now is not sustainable. And everybody knows it.

A tribute to the great Claude Felton, who announced Tuesday that he is retiring after 45 years as Georgia's legendary sports information director. He is simply the best.
