Thousands of disabled people will get £2,800 a year less after the Universal Credit rollout, it’s emerged.

The ways in which the Tory party have found to push disabled people into poverty truly is endless. theguardian.com/society/2024/a…

If you repeal the Hate Crime Act, all of these aggravators would disappear. Assault etc would still be criminal offences, but the law wouldn't recognise prejudice as an aggravating factor in any of these examples. I doubt the Scottish Tories really believe this is a good idea.

I don't really see any good reason for non-Tory MSPs to even turn up for this. There's no point debating people who are not engaging in good faith - it only encourages them.

Just turn up to vote the motion down and otherwise get on with useful things.

The Tories, alongside some columnists and the odd billionaire, whipped up a mob that then sent a deluge of bad-faith complaints to the police - and now they want to use that deluge as evidence that the law should be repealed. Utterly, utterly shameless.

Can it really be Scottish Tory policy that harassing the disabled, assaulting ethnic minorities & daubing anti-Semitic abuse on synagogues should not be treated in Scots law as aggravated by prejudice? Because that's a big part of what repealing the Hate Crime Act would achieve.

This is not merely speculation. Keira Bell's lawyer (who acts for the Christian Right) has brought a number of anti abortion cases and said 'the Gillick competency test is no longer fit for purpose.'

The international rules-based order fundamentally does not exist. Countries make shit up as they go and can change the 'rules' whenever they want.

Claims that transphobes have deeply-held concerns about the safety and effectiveness of medical care for trans people.

A new report calls on Police Scotland to apologise for historic homophobia, biphobia, and transphobia, and to accept that it is, at present, an 'institutionally transphobic' organisation.

This tweet was over a year ago. It has been possible to debate these issue with compassion if discussion was really what you were interested in.

It is absolutely incredible, and extremely worrying, that some otherwise intelligent people seem unable to see through this stuff or recognise the impact of the language that is (deliberately) being used.

Transphobes are doing a bizarre victory lap over a review of gender-affirming care in the UK.

The only thing it found is what we already knew:
- Tiny number of kids transition
- Comprehensive assessments before receiving medications
- Vanishingly few detransition

The question 'are large numbers of kids receiving irreversible medical treatments without assessment?' has been asked and answered dozens of times.

Anyone who insists on continuing this 'debate' is either misinformed or acting in bad faith.
