Evening walk.
The footpath is scattered with individual elderflowers, brought down by the rain.
There are hundreds of little bumblebees in the bramble flowers.

Arcs of rainbow come & go. I point one out to the dogs, realising almost at once that it's unlikely they can see it.

A reminder that Nigel Farage has cited this man, Enoch Powell, as his political hero. Once up a time, linking yourself to Powell would end your political career.

husband came to bed, watching sitcoms on tablet (with headphones), laughing & commenting;
dogs have gone ballistic twice, growling, barking, running around (outside noises);
cat has politely, persistently mewed to go out.
Now wide awake. 🙄

Evening walk.

I put on my wet coat, shrug the dogs into their wet harnesses.

Rain's stopped. The swifts are flying low in the damp air. Housemartins dart alongside. I stand and watch till my neck aches - feeling their summer joy against the wintery sky.

Morning walk.
The dogs, who usually hate the rain, decide we're taking the longer way round. I duck through ivy & birch, skirt sloes, tangle with brambles, & say hello to hawthorn.
The rain intensifies. My skirt clings to my legs, the dogs look tiny & spiky. The hedges are happy

Evening walk.

Six swifts circle once.
The songthrush has added a starling skirl to his aria.
There's a faint hint of honeysuckle on the air.
We wander around the park slowly, the boys sniffing out rabbit tracks.
As we return home, a distant muntjac barks.

Husband shone a torch into the gardenfor about 10 seconds and now a buzzywitch is hanging out on our flyscreen
