This ⁦The Standard⁩ article only mentions theatre and tv and museums as culture. Yet there is a whole children’s books industry with associated supporters (charities like BookTrust, teachers etc) all taking it very seriously. 📚

Am I banging on about Irish children's books again? Too right I am.
I did an online event this morning and barely a child could name an Irish children's writer.
There are so many world-class books from Irish children's writers - we need to get the information out there!

I don’t get it. Irish adult readers buy Irish written books for themselves and yet, when it comes to their kids, they’re not.
Can anyone explain this please? It’s not as if we don’t have the writers. 🤷‍♀️

Difficult, even unlikeable MCs are so important in children's and YA books. They help kids accept their own flaws. Kids are often held to impossible standards in school, in church, at home. They need reminding that everyone has a dark, selfish side and makes mistakes.
