We are pleased to report that the Museum at Hawkinge reopened to the public on Good Friday, 29th March, for the 2024 Season & we welcomed a record number of visitors through our doors. The busiest first day of the season since the Museum was formed back in 1965.

Last week the Museum was successful in acquiring a very special item to add to our collection.
This completely unique fragment of wreckage is from the very last aircraft flown by pioneering British Aviatrix Amy Johnson CBE, sadly lost in Jan 1941 when her Airspeed Oxford crashed.

Just 5 weeks until we open for the 2024 season! This week we’ve been undertaking a deep clean of our hangars! Our amazing volunteers have been busy throughout winter, with some challenging weather, ready to welcome new & old visitors to the Museum!

Had a wonderful day with spectacular weather visiting the The Battle of Britain Memorial before moving on to Battle of Britain Both are just brilliant but incredibly moving. The Few still don’t get enough recognition in my opinion. To also have some Spitfire flypasts was the cherry on the cake.

Amongst the visitors to the Museum last week were Gilly Little, Jenny Ashby & Tony Outred, the nieces & nephew of P/O Alan F. Eckford.
P/O Eckford is of course one of the pilots recreated in our awe inspiring ‘Spirit of The Few’ Monument unveiled last year.

We’ve been privileged to meet many amazing individuals at the Museum over the years. One such visitor was the late Bill Foxley. Many will recognise him from his portrayal of a badly burnt Hurricane pilot in the 1968 Battle of Britain Film. Today would have been his 100th birthday
