Together with Federal Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Girma Amante, we launched the production of Rice on 3,000 hectares in West Godey through irrigation. The plan is to increase it to 10,000 hectares in the next 3 years. The vision is food self-sufficiency + import substitution!

Peace dividend in Somali Region: Increased youth appetite for & participation in Sport activities. The regional government is encouraging this change of mindset among the youth by increasing budget allocations for construction of sport facilities & organizing more tournaments.

PM Dr. Abiy Ahmed inaugurated Godey Ugaas Mirad Leyli Airport today. The tall young-man greeting the PM is Khadar Mirad Leyli, son of the martyred revered community leader. Khadar’s changed personal circumstances instantiate our community’s dark past & shining present.

Remarkable! The significance of this splendid edifice goes beyond the great history it symbolizes. It heralds the height that can be achieved through hardwork & imagination. It speaks about nation-building & inclusive national narrative.

Our regional drought preparedness measures are paying off. Over twenty trucks of locally produced fodder is being delivered to Pastoralists in Siti Zone. Fodder production activities are implemented through irrigation in Shabelle, Liban, & Sitti zones.

Somali Regional State Parliament endorsed the Regional Government’s Six-month Performance Report in the brand new regional parliament hall.

Somali Region has seen unprecedented peace & dev’t in the last 5 yrs. Building on gains made & prospering in an inclusive & democratic Ethiopia is our vision. Attempts to drum-up old jingos & make our region a ground for external interests will be decisively confronted.

Together with Eng. Aisha Mohamed, Minister of Irrigation & Lowlands, launched Kulan Irrigation project, which aims to develop 3,300 hectares with a total cost of Bir 6.1 billion, in Sitti Zone. Also visited ongoing irrigated wheat & other production activities by regional gov’t.

Inaugurated new asphalt roads in Kebridahar town as part of our region’s urban development agenda.

Attended the starting ceremony of the construction of the first exclusive Mother & Children Hospital (MCH) in Jigjiga which will be completed in 6 months. With the rising population in Jigjiga, this hospital will reduce pressure on other health facilities due to high birth rates.

Together with Federal Ministers - Dr. Girma Amante & Eng. Aisha Mohamed - launched the Somali Region Agricultural Transformation Plan in Godey. Also visited Irrigated Wheat production at West Godey; & inaugurated 5.5km Asphalt roads & Godey town park & urban agriculture site.

Part of ongoing flood response activities in Shabelle zone. Coordination between Regional/Zonal authorities & Ethiopian National Defense Forces enabling provision of food, medicine, & non-food items (using helicopters & boats) to areas cut-off from supply routes by floods.

Back from a 3-day visit to flood-hit southern zones of Somali Region: Liban, Afdher, & Shabelle. Life-saving interventions underway for >46,000 households affected. Many thanks to regional police & National Defense Forces who rescued & evacuated people.

Pleased to see a good number of business people from Somali Reg included in the list of top 500 best performing taxpayers. In the 5 years before 2018, 605 investors with a capital of Birr 10m registered; after the reform, it is 2000+ investors with a capital of Birr 35billion.
