Joining in for #PetDay with 'Crimean Tom', a stuffed tabby cat who resides in our Soldier gallery.
In 1855, British & French forces entered the ruins of Sebastopol in Crimea.
It was here that they found 'Tom', who was rescued and brought back to England.

To counter mine detectors like this one, the Germans introduced non-metallic mines containing explosives made from wood or glass. These could only be found by systematically prodding the ground with a metal spike.
