In 2020, the sector’s biggest wage thief, University of Melbourne management, illegally threatened 2 staff who questioned their pay. While it’s pleasing management’s been fined $75K, with >$160m stolen from university staff this behaviour is widespread. Urgent action is required.

Too many university workers are in insecure employment.
Many of those are renters feeling the impacts of the housing crisis.

When 'university protocols' allow for a $127k party for 9 years as the VC but not a proper ongoing job for the many casuals that have been working the same job for over a decade - maybe the problem is the protocols, not whether you follow them 🙄🙄

This obscene spending by VCs and upper management must end. Imagine if that $127k was put towards teaching or research, or paying back stolen wages.
