This makes zero sense. Why on earth would taxpayers foot the bill for retrofits when Staples is doing this to increase foot-traffic in their stores and, as a result, boost their sales? How much money are we going to bleed out of the public till into the hands of private equity?

And that globally disruptive rise in shipping prices was not driven by 'costs' in any economic sense: it was driven by profits. The top shippers made more profit in 2021 & 2022 than in all of hitherto existing history: over $100bUS in 2022 for just 5 big publicly reporting firms.
