in 1982, the Royal Navy battered ARA Santa Fe, hitting the Argentine submarine with depth charges, AS-12 missiles and machine gun fire. Though damaged, the ex-USS Catfish managed to get back to port without losing any men. The sub then surrendered to the British.

Many WWI-era U.S. Navy battleships including USS Texas and USS Wyoming had aft 5-inch casemate gun 'stingers'. The guns were later removed because in addition to being ineffective, the casemates often took on water in rough seas.
