The combination of fresh snow and gusty winds could make for a messy commute this afternoon and evening, especially for the Omaha and Lincoln metros.

While more roads are open, winter driving conditions still exist - take it slow. Many roads may have a narrow 2-lane capacity, with some areas only a single lane. Look out for obstacles including abandoned vehicles and large drifts.

STAY OFF THE ROADS. Driving conditions are worse than they look. High winds are blowing snow back onto plowed roads. Stranded vehicles also pose additional risks & challenges to keeping the roads cleared and driving conditions safe.

🛑 With this storm’s high winds and blowing snow, drifts can quickly reform across roadways across the state, even if plows have been through an area. Rethink if travel is absolutely necessary — numerous counts of stranded motorists. Stay safe by staying put, if at all possible.

Even in the freezing cold and blowing snow, Nebraska’s ranchers work outside to feed, care for and keep close watch on their livestock. Today we send our heartfelt thanks to those braving the weather to help put food on our tables. Stay warm and safe. We’re thinking about you.
