The Great Barrier Reef has just suffered its most catastrophic bleaching event on record. An economic system killing the largest single living organism on our planet is, in the end, going to kill everything

🧵Why are Lime Trees treated so badly? They have a lovely canopy but are increasingly brutalised by Haringey Council tree cutters so they resemble skeletons. Before & after pics here from 3 nearby. Lush last year, now wrecks of their former selves.
How are they where you are?

This thread by @leonsimons8 from a year ago today is a fantastic overview of where all the incoming excess heat (13+ Hiroshimas per second) goes ...

89% to heating oceans
5% to heating land
4% to melting ice
2% to heating the atmosphere

The reason that the Conservative government has cut the pay of NHS staff so severely is because they are intentionally destroying our public healthcare system and making way for privatisation.

Your 'moment of doom' for Apr. 17, 2024 ~ Because CO₂ is plant food.

'The worldwide surge in wildfires over the past decade is often attributed to the hotter, drier conditions ... the effect of increasing levels of CO₂ on plants may be a bigger factor.'

In this city of 100,000, one of the most liberal and environmentally conscious anywhere, with an abundance of good weather, sidewalks and bike lanes, I would say there is a robust group of about 20 to 30 of us locals who purposefully walk or bike to do most of our errands.

CONFIRMED!

Possibly barring the immediate aftermath of the dinosaur-killing impact at the K-Pg boundary, the global average temperature and carbon dioxide levels are now climbing faster than at any point in the entire geological record.

If you aren't terrified, you should be.
