Over half (56%) of NewcastleCityCouncil's streets don't allow through-traffic.
No one complains about these streets.
LTNs aren't the problem. Change is the problem.

Another of Newcastle's low traffic neighbourhoods to be axed. NewcastleCityCouncil confirms that its Heaton LTN will not be made permanent when its 18-month trial expires on April 23.

Any future scheme will be dependent on finding a mythical design that makes everyone happy, the political will, funding being available.

The Council tried speed humps, but didn't put them on the adjacent street, which is a Strategic Cycle Route, so ended up pushing more traffic down there.
This is the first meaningful intervention in decades.
Rumour has it that NewcastleCityCouncil may remove the successful Heaton LTN trial at the end of the month.
