As part of the award, Nemonte wrote an editorial piece in the magazine demanding respect for her home, her territory and those of other Indigenous nationalities.

“The award is a recognition for the strong #Indigenous movement in #Ecuador fighting against mining and oil extraction from ancestral land”, said Nemonte when she heard the news from TIME.

On April 1st TIME recognized our co-founder, Nemonte Nenquimo, with the TIME Earth Award 2024, among other important #climate activists 🌎.
