This cannot be allowed to happen. The #triplelock needs to be scrapped immediately. You cannot have one generation enjoying huge increases to their benefits while working people with mortgages are squeezed harder and harder.

How can the Chancellor, with a straight face, make a thread like this without addressing the triple lock: a mechanic which is designed to increase state spending year after year?

This is truly shameful. Increasing benefits for the wealthy and increasing taxes on the lowest earners to pay for it.

A 'fair' increase would be an increase in line with what workers are getting - which is below inflation.

Part of our problem as a country is that we listen too much to 'local concerns' when making decisions about important national infrastructure. Locals should be consulted about their concerns to see if they can be alleviated, but shouldn't get a say on whether it goes ahead.

This is ludicrous. We should be pushing people to take every measure they can to improve their energy efficiency to try and avoid this before it happens. Instead, we're fixing unit prices way below cost and removing the natural incentive for people to save energy.
