A lovely few hours with Mandy Myers wandering at Hoe Rough Norfolk Wildlife Trust. The first Green-winged Orchids up, a superb swarm of tiny Green Longhorn moths, a superb Blue Shieldbug + this very smart Cranefly - Euphylidorea dispar. A nice surprise was 4 Ravens low overhead!

If you want to find Coleophoras - look for transparent circles on the leaf and turn it over to find the case. Here’s Col serratella on birch in garden today. A minute winter case, which will soon enlarge. Apologies for gardeners nails!

Great but brief views of a ringtailed Hen Harrier at Potter Heigham Marshes at 10.30 this morning. Also Wheatear and Yellow Wagtail braving the raw, windy conditions. RareBirdAlertUK

California/Caister 2nd Ave this morning saw my first Whitethroat of the year and my earliest ever here. Sadly no Sand Martins yet, normally on the cliffs by now . The Gorse now giving a wonderful display and delicious aroma Norfolk and Norwich Naturalists’ Society

I’m told by Jo Parmenter 💚 that she hardly gets records of early dune species like heath dog-violet and spring vetch; so here I am on my hands and knees in a howling north wind, trying to type into iRecord with freezing fingers.

Just for you Jo x

Hi folks. I'm looking for hi-res images of Black-tailed Godwits, both islandica & limosa, particular summer adults & also juveniles as well. Ideally taken in the UK, but that's not essential.
Please DM me if you have anything that may be helpful. Thanks in advance, Mark

Despite the freezing cold northerly gale at Cley, a Glossy Ibis yesterday and a White Stork today. The stork was unringed, but feather detail may identify the individual if it is photographed again somewhere. (More pics on cleybirds.com.)

In a local park today I noticed some feeding damage on Lamb's Ear leaves. Checking underneath I found a larval case of Woundwort Case-bearer, Coleophora lineolea (norfolkmoths.co.uk/micros.php?bf=…). I've seen it a few times before, but on Hedge Woundwort with slightly less fluffy cases!

Yesterdays 40 mile cycle ride: flooded road requiring detour and a random verge with Goldilocks Buttercups. The Dark Bush-cricket nymph found this flower to be just right.

Our Cranberry Rough reserve is a strange, ancient place, and a challenging reserve to manage, but the wildlife rewards are so worth it! 💪✨

When I caught a Siskin in my Nofolk garden for BTO last month, it was carrying a lot of fat. I remember thinking that this bird is going to go somewhere far away but I never thought it would be in Germany 10 days later! @Wildbarley

Pardosa amentata abundant on the marshes today, here's a short film clip of a male trying to attract a female. Ultimately she was n't too impressed by his palp waving and body quivering and did a runner ! Not rare but being only 2/3mm long you never appreciate how beautiful some micro are until you see them up close, Ilex Leaf-miner/Phyllonorycter Messaniella in the garden Norfolk Moths (Jim Wheeler CMR) Norfolk and Norwich Naturalists’ Society BC Norfolk matter
