TweetDeck : Richard Clinnick Gareth Dennis Worth pointing out, that for Northern Route Working Group's project for the full reopening and associated upgrades, it could come in at a hell of a cost and still be cheaper on a per mile basis - as would many reopening schemes.
TweetDeck : As followers will know, all the work done so far has been pro bono, and in that spirit, are there any graphics and marketing people who might be willing to bring their expertise to the team in the same spirit? Drop us a line if you're interested!
TweetDeck : Reopen Absolutely, and it's a cornerstone of our proposal that the full route unlocks benefits and revenues that stub services at either end simply cannot.
TweetDeck : Reopen Andy Roden CNNCTconsultancy Don't forget Cornwall too: this project benefits the whole of Devon and Cornwall by providing connectivity to the likes of Launceston and Padstow, freight potential and of course diversions when the main line is closed to keep the region connected.
TweetDeck : You're welcome, Matt.

iPhone : In 2021 you’ll see our proposals take more solid form, and hopefully funding secured for the Strategic Outline Business Case too. A lot has been achieved, and a lot will be achieved over the next 12 months. This reopening simply has to happen if our analysis is correct.
iPhone : Huge thanks to the team for their entirely pro bono efforts, and also to sponsoring MPs Geoffrey Cox QC MP Scott Mann MP Johnny Mercer and Mel Stride for their support. Also to Andrea Davis, who is a huge advocate of better transport in the SW.
iPhone : We believe their is a credible case for the full reopening that will provide attractive journeys and deliver very significant social, economic and environmental benefits for the whole of Devon, Cornwall and parts of Somerset and Dorset.
iPhone : As 2020 draws to a close, there is real momentum gathering on our proposals to reopen Exeter-Okehampton-Tavistock-Plymouth. In less than a year, we’ve formed a team of genuine experts in their fields and examined the case.
iPhone : In the latest issue of Nigel Harris, Philip Haigh analyses our proposals for reopening Exeter-Okehampton-Tavistock-Plymouth throughout. A superb analysis - impartial, accurate and fair. Thanks very much, Phil!
iPhone : Lewis Andrews Yes, really committed work going on. Northern Route Working Group Network Rail Western Great Western Railway and Devon County Council working together.
iPhone : Sexigenerian Cyclist Keith Barrow CNNCTconsultancy Ben Bradshaw That’s the point - Northern Route doesn’t. Any nearby inland deviation of the main line a la GWR plans would.
iPhone : Keith Barrow Ben Bradshaw The problem with an inland deviation is that it competes with the main line (unless you don’t want to serve teignmouth, Dawlish and Dawlish Warren. Only the Northern Route provides significant benefits in its own right as well as diversionary capability.
iPhone : Keith Barrow Ben Bradshaw Thanks, Keith. And of course, if we get it open sooner, that allows longer blockades on the main line to complete the long term resilience programme potentially years faster and more cheaply. The South West needs both projects to be completed.
TweetDeck : Siemens Mobility nails it here - rail must be the spine of our transport system, which is why schemes like the full reopening of the Dartmoor Line are critical in the long term. …rthernrouteworkinggroup.wordpress.com/2020/12/10/dev… twitter.com/SiemensMobilit…
TweetDeck : robert gwynne We'd all expect South West Rail Resilience Programme's work to cut over the long term the amount of predicted disruption due to climate change, but another route - provided diversions aren't the only justification - wd help protect the SW economy. Cd also speed programme up and make it more efficient.
TweetDeck : Northern Route Working Group With the measures currently being put in place Dawlish should be a lot more resilient in future than it was in 2014. But still, relying solely on a coastal alignment when storms are increasingly frequent and intense would be a mistake - we need an alternative route.
TweetDeck : Keith Barrow Absolutely agree, Keith - and one of the benefits of this reopening is that by potentially allowing Network Rail Western to undertake longer blockades, the resilience programme (which is vital) can be made quicker and cheaper. All areas of Devon/Cornwall benefit.
