I'm shocked to hear about the gun attack on İslahiyenin Sesi newspaper in  #Türkiye . I commend the police for their efforts to secure protection for the editorial staff & their swift launch of an investigation. It is crucial that the culprits are identified & brought to justice.

Today, we remember the courageous journalist Slavko Ćuruvija who was brutally murdered 25 years ago in #Serbia . The fact that this heinous crime remains unresolved is deeply disturbing. Impunity is not only an attack on #mediafreedom but on society as a whole.

One thing is clear, I stated during today’s MALTA - OSCE24 Conference on Addressing Anti-Semitism: to protect the cause of free speech we need to protect it against its blatant misuse. The right to #FreedomOfExpression can under no condition be used to excuse actions of Anti-Semitism.

Sentencing of 2 more #Belarusjournalists , Andrei Tolchyn & Ihar Karney, to imprisonment of 2.5 & 3 years, is appalling. It deepens intimidation, fear & insecurity, it devastates media workers, their families & colleagues & it perpetuates repression & undermines #MediaFreedom .

Just concluded my visit to 🇮🇹. Discussed pressing issues, including decriminalizing defamation & opened our #SafetyofJournalists event bringing together national focal points. We agreed on the need to continue our efforts towards furthering #MediaFreedom .
