James Fallows onthepublicrecord OTPR might just be a little closer to the source(s) on this than you are. OK, a whole lot closer.
Daniel Rothberg Ian James The Land Desk I'd love to see a conversion from dollars to acreage. Because once you know acreage, the conversion to acre-feet is ~3af-year/acre-year.
James Fallows He is using his entire administration to build a campaign resume for his run for president. That is the only standard by which he runs the executive branch and determines their agenda. It has been maddening to the longterm civil servants.
davehuntsman James Fallows Administration-wide, whenever I talk to staffers at other agencies, they agree that they've never experienced the control and bottle-necking through the governor's office that Newsom has instituted.

davehuntsman James Fallows Those will come to nothing as soon as he is out of office, but the delay in the regulatory path could well mean extinction for salmon on several major rivers.
davehuntsman James Fallows Rather than continue with a regulatory path that would set water quality standards for the Bay-Delta that had started under Brown, Gov Newsom fired the appointed board member associated with them, put in someone too timid to defy him, and has pursued 'Voluntary Agreements'.
Erica Gies / SlowWater.World Faith Kearns pointed out that there is more arable land in CA than there is water to irrigate it (~3AF/acreyear). So if your standard is 'always use any water for private farmer profit', we will always be water short.
We need to decide what we want our water to do.

onthepublicrecord I am not a specialist in what they do but I absolutely respect their work - my point is that we need to have people like them in colleges of agriculture across the land grant system and we need to really engage with them and their scholarship to make meaningful change.
onthepublicrecord James Fallows For those of us not in California can you give us one good for-instance/example?
onthepublicrecord Alex Breitler I recall that as well, but I felt like it was on a different vehicle at the time. Must’ve been quite a while ago…
Maybe one day another terrible thing will happen and I will once again get the ridiculous high of receiving onthepublicrecord in my inbox like I did today.
onthepublicrecord In the last quarter of a century I have been absolutely unimpressed by the STS scholars/ anthropologists/ sociologists etc. who work in land grant ag spaces. Either they are not good to start with, they get fired, or they get on with the program fast.
