For swimmers breaking records is great…But what they value even more is dropping time…Which simply means getting better every time they swim that event. That’s what we should all strive for, not breaking records but simply getting better every day. Better today than yesterday.

Having served in public education for 25+ years, the one thing that I want non educators to know is that educators like Mick Hoffman show up for kids because they are truly invested in their students. They do not give up their weekends for the money or for summers “off.”

When I think of difference makers, I think of these six HISDNorthDiv principals who make a difference in the lives of their students, parents, staff, and community…

For many students, testing days present anxiety. Not Osborne Elementary … they were all about pumping them up with #PositiveVibesOnly . Fola Dimandja, Ph.D. set the tone by modeling the expectation. The speed of the leader determines the pace of the pack and they understood the assignment.

My one and only Mumsey would have been 91 today. As I get older, I think I miss her more as I know I would have leaned on her for those pearls of wisdom she so willingly shared. Oh how I’d love to hug her one more time… gentle reminder to treasure the moments you have today.

Today Janowski Elementary lead learner Myrna Bazan was recognized as HISDNorthDiv principal of the month. I cannot think of anyone more deserving of this honor. Ms. Bazan puts children first… always… leads with joy…. and has established a culture of commitment over compliance.
