Some personal news! RNLI 🧑

Delighted to have recently made the move north to Shetland - a place that I've come to treasure over the years. We are looking forward to becoming part of the community here, and of course, for the wildlife at every turn!

So priviliged to join the Hebridean Whale & Dolphin Trust research boat Silurian for their winter survey this week. So far we've seen a group of common dolphins, including a very wee dinky one! And every weather and type of season possible - hail, sun, fog, you name it πŸ˜† Awesome so far! πŸ’™πŸ’ͺ🏽🐳

A sad start to 2024 with news reaching us on New Years day of this young female Orca found floating off Orkney. With the '27s' not far away and the 65s there recently, a check of all eye-patch images of calves over the last five years proved negative. x.com/strandings/sta…

The matriarch of the 27s Orca pod - 'Vaila' - with her one year old calf in crystal clear seas off Quarff, Shetland this week. It was amazing to watch the calf switching echelon positions constantly as they travelled - but even more amazing was to watch the calf nursing. Special.

NorthLink Ferries are delighted to sponsor the Sanday Seal Cam again. This is a great watch during late October, November and December – when grey seals come ashore to give birth!

To say that we had pretty amazing views of Orcas here in Shetland yesterday is probably an understatement! Here's bull 34 from the 27s pod a few metres off the shoreline of Mousa Sound.

I'd love to send the photographer a high res keepsake.

Please retweet so we can find them!

Happy World Orca Day🐳Isn't it cool that the more we unravel about their social lives, culture, foraging habits, the more we realise how little we know. Our first ep this June is all about the West Coast Community in Scotland. While 10 individuals total have been identified by Hebridean Whale & Dolphin Trust, only two - W01 John Coe and W08 Aquarius have been seen in recent years.
