As a Vancouver parent -- we are so lucky to have JenniferReddy on our school board, doing the work to support our kids and their teachers.

Our Vancouver School Board handles a big budget of ~$600 million for the year 2024/25.

This money should be used to confront the most pressing challenges at our schools, but sadly, that’s not happening under ABC leadership. #vanpoli #bced

More buses, more frequent public transit, more nonmarket and market apartments with no parking requirements!

Imagine if we had a public school system that nourished and supported every student in the way that they needed.

ABC’s dismissal of meaningful improvements to education in our district is disappointing. Our work is not over! We must speak up about our needs in the school system and ensure that each student is getting the support they deserve.👇🏾

Asking for the budget to replace absent teachers on their first day of being away would support students more consistently, minimize gaps in learning, prevent other teaching staff from being displaced and support staff morale. The ABC-dominated board voted against this motion.👇🏾

Last night, my budget item to immediately address staffing shortages at the #VSB was voted down by the ABC-dominated board, debate was stifled & the content of my motion was dismissed. Concerns raised by our largest employee groups were ignored.👇🏾

I hear concerns about staff shortages that increase gaps in learning support. Counsellors, resource teachers, specialist teachers, & support staff are pulled from their work to cover unfilled absences. The support these teachers provide is pulled from students who need it.👇🏾

dwindling classroom supplies that have not had monetary increases in 14 years. I brought forward an item from the Secondary Teachers’ Association asking that the supply budget be increased. It failed. The ABC-dominated board voted against increasing school supplies for kids.👇🏾

A school board budget of approx $600million for 24-25 should reflect our values. If there are important issues at our schools, the budget should help address that. Year after year I hear about the… 🧵 #bced #vanpoli

Meanwhile trustee JenniferReddy has brought forward a motion to increase funding for consumable supplies (e.g., science lab equipment) and community field trips. Her motion is not a distraction. It could make a real difference. 🔬🧪🥼
