In 1997, I wrote about exactly this in my BA dissertation! In Hull. It might even still be in the Library, if he's ever thinking of writing a follow up..??

2/ Like ‘Torches’ it is an early work, written while on the staff of the music dept at University of Hull & living in the flat subsequently occupied by #PhilipLarkin . There is no record of the first performance but it has been part of the mainstream choral repertoire for over 60 years.
