Happy Earth Day, folks!

Today, I’m reminded of the work we must do to protect our planet for future generations.

I’m also reminded of the historic progress we’ve already made — building a cleaner, healthier planet for every American.

And we’re just getting started.

You’ve heard me say it before –

Wall Street didn’t build America.

The middle class built America, and unions built the middle class.

Right now, my Administration is investigating trade practices by China regarding steel and aluminum.

If that investigation confirms anti-competitive practices, I'll call on the United States Trade Representative to triple tariff rates on steel and aluminum imports from China.

When I signed the Butch Lewis Act – the most significant law for union retirement security in 50 years – I protected the hard-earned pensions of record numbers of union workers and retirees including thousands from the IBEW.

Today, members of both parties in the House of Representatives voted to advance our national security interests by passing urgently needed legislation delivering critical support to Israel and Ukraine, and aid for those impacted by conflict and disasters around the world.

I signed into law the most significant gun safety reform in nearly three decades.

But Congress must do more.

We need universal background checks, a national red flag law, and we must ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.

Congratulations to the workers at Volkswagen in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on their historic vote for union representation with the United Auto Workers.

Union members across the country have logged major wins and large raises, and I will continue to stand with American workers

Since Columbine, over 400 school shootings – from Newtown to Parkland to Uvalde – have exposed over 370,000 students to the horrors of gun violence.

Students across the country now learn how to duck and cover before they learn how to read and write.

This violence must end.

Instead of importing foreign products and exporting American jobs, we’re finally exporting American products and creating American union jobs right here where they belong.

Since I took office, we’ve created a record 15 million new jobs.

And, folks, unemployment hasn’t been this low for this long in over 50 years.
