Miners who had recently been made redundant in 1980s pit closures were among the British workers who built the Channel Tunnel.

Great to host Paul Sweeney today, who came to our offices to hear about the epilepsy journey of several of our service users, and to discuss funding for the sector. Huge thanks to Ryan, Juliette, Caroline and Kerry who were all amazing and shared their story with Paul.

Really enjoyable Aberdeen Labour evening with delicious 😋 food. Thanks to Cllr Nurul Hoque Ali for organising. And thanks to Paul Sweeney for an interesting talk encompassing drugs policy, ship building, the Beatles and opportunities for our young people.

Time to talk Universal Credit. We're 10yrs into its roll-out, so understandably interest has waned. But it's impact on Britain has built - whoever wins the next election will be governing a 'Universal Credit Britain' with 7m families - and big winners and losers - on it by 2029🧵

I’m proud to support the campaign to Keep Grangemouth Working ✊

The consequences of the refinery closing is devastating for skilled local workers, the Grangemouth economy and all of Scotland as our fuel security will be compromised.

It's exciting that Glasgow has put forward a proposal to Commonwealth Sport to be host city for the 2026 Commonwealth Games, after Victoria in Australia pulled out.

Glasgow has experienced challenges since 2014, but it could be a big opportunity to put the city's regeneration back on track

What a bizarre approach this is from a ‘conservative’ councillor let’s approve the demolition of our old buildings because if we don’t they might fall down 🤯

Another option for accelerated housing development in Glasgow for an Athletes' Village could be the already consented scheme for 1500 homes on the old College Goods Station site. This would regenerate 7.5 acres of land that has been derelict for 56 years, just off the High Street

The Cowlairs Masterplan for 850 new homes has been prepared by Glasgow City Council. It would be an ideal location for the Athletes' Village and could begin construction within weeks if Glasgow becomes host city.

This would bring massive regeneration benefits to Springburn and Possilpark.
