I often think it would be great if these people were to switch places for a month with people suffering real-world problems of hunger, poverty, loss of human rights, clean water, shelter, education and minimal life chances. Just saying...

Thanks Angela Rayner 🌹 for recognising that good planning must minimise harm to wildlife *and* drive habitat restoration.

We'd support reforms to boost nature-friendly, low-carbon development alongside:
🌳long-term investment in nature
🌊stronger protected sites

Why unions are lobbying Labour over a ‘just transition’ to cleaner energy

Yes, indeed. Climate change has been proven to be increasing risks to aviation from so-called clear air turbulence that is hard to spot and from wider changes to the jet stream, with greater, intensifying impacts to come. Buckle up.

The start of Labour setting out their housing stall?

They’ll inherit a dangerously defective building sector, I hope they have the teeth to stand up to it.

Many British homeowners have been defrauded of their life savings and are living in dangerously defective homes.

Whatever the outcome, in a febrile election year, it's a lesson all political hues should now learn from. A timely, effective transition means putting money where your mouth is, not stop-go policies as we have seen in the UK, and a potential risk too in the US after November.

It's not surprising we're panicking over risk of a flood of cheap imports, & something will no doubt be done. But it's really unedifying to see how our reluctance (with a few exceptions) to invest heavily, earlier in green technology of the future's left us all in this position.

Longer term, one might expect China's growing domestic market to absorb much more of its output of solar panels, batteries. That would help restore balance as our own green technology ramps up. Assuming positive stimulus developments such as the US IRA, EU Green Deal continue.

We need to act firmly where there's goods dumping in trade, but not merely to punish successes. Yes, of course we need to show a jobs dividend from green transition for it to be politically accepted, but perhaps a more nuanced approach rather than beggar-thy-neighbour trade war?

'We know it is still possible to make the 1.5° limit a reality. It requires tearing out the poisoned root of the climate crisis: fossil fuels. And it demands a just, equitable renewables transition.' António Guterres

We have the solutions. Implement them.

This is a bitter taste of what we are doing to our planet. And still the flow of oil and gas keeps growing... as do the vacuous climate change denials.

'PIP claimants warned payment cuts are needed to save 'creaking' system'. I'm sure desperate claimants will respond positively to such a patriotic call for sacrifice to save the 'creaking', aka underfunded system. Anyone for falling under a bus? inews.co.uk/news/politics/…

Really great chart this. What doesn't get mentioned is how these smart tariffs only seem to be on offer for domestic heat pumps. Owners of commercial heat pumps like local authorities, community centres, are often still on dumb flat rate tariffs.
