Update 6:38 a.m.: Administrators met with encampment participants at approximately 4 a.m. where they communicated that the encampment must be removed from Hearn Plaza by 7 a.m. If it is not removed, the “conduct process” will commence.

Update 7 a.m.: Encampment participants and materials remain on Hearn Plaza and on the steps of Wait Chapel. A fourth police officer approaches the chapel.

Update 7:04 a.m.: Dean of Students Matthew Clifford, Executive Director of Student Engagement Tim Wilkinson and Associate Dean of Student Conduct Jim Settle have returned to Hearn Plaza.

Update 7:12 a.m.: Eight police officers, including Chief of Police Regina Lawson are now on Hearn Plaza.

Update 7:26 a.m.: Administrators have approached encampment participants and asked them to remove the encampment. In response, participants cite their engagement in peaceful protest as grounds to remain on Hearn Plaza.

Update 7:36 a.m.: Administrators walked away from encampment participants, who remain seated in the grass. Clifford stands on the brick pathway making a phone call.

Update 8:14 a.m.: After speaking with administrators, participant confirms that they will meet with Wake Forest donors, President Susan Wente and Aramark Corporation. They await a written agreement from administrators guaranteeing that they may protest at a different location.

Update 8:36 a.m.: Encampment participants have begun to write chalk messages along the brick sidewalk on Manchester Plaza and the stone walkways near Reynolda Hall.

Update 9:01 a.m.: Administators and encampment participants continue to negotiate a written agreement for meetings and a new encampment location.

Update 9:09 a.m.: Provost Michele Gillespie and Clifford approach encampment to discuss a draft of a written agreement.

Update 9:30 a.m.: Encampment participants are moving tents and other materials to Manchester Plaza. A tentative written agreement has been reached, according to participant Hasan Pyarali.

Update 9:49 a.m.: The Office of Communication and External Relations sent a campus-wide email with a statement from administrators. The email confirms that an agreement has been reached that allows protestors “to continue to demonstrate in accordance with [University] policies.”
