what’s fucked is there is absolutely shit i’d like AI to do for me. like if i draw capsule art i’d love to tell a computer “generate a png for me in the 24 sizes this storefront wants”. but instead it goes “i’ll do the drawing part! it’ll look like shit. you make the png’s :)”

You ever think about how more people driving makes everything worse for drivers but more people taking the train makes the train better

Not only is the manual process of creating crucial to making good art... but to call it mundane drudgery is just ignorance / laziness.

There's no better feeling than sitting down with good music, a cup of tea, and getting in the zone painting for hours. The process is the point.

Now will be remembered as a cultural dark age when companies & con men strip mined the arts. This is feeding livestock back their own waste in an effort to cut costs, a synthetic ouroboros that will only create more cancer, more outbreaks of newer & more vile diseases of the soul

The process of creating is crucial to learning and growing as an artist. You make discoveries, have revelations, come up with new approaches, techniques, ideas. The process is something most artists enjoy and value deeply. If it feels like 'mundane drudgery,' ask yourself why.

100%. Art is hard, people generally don't pursue it for the riches, they pursue it because they love it. If it can also comfortably pay the bills, that's usually enough for most.

When you prompt, you're sending off your words and proposed edits and hoping you like what you get back. If you don't, you try again and again until you do.

That's what a client does, not an artist. The speed of iteration is fooling people into thinking they created something.

'AI art is a human art form.'

-Um, no. Its sole purpose is to remove the human and automate the process.

'Quality will vary based on the individual'

-Not really. It depends more on what art is in the dataset and what it's programmers allow.

🤦

Lmao all I can think of is the disabled artist who paints with her mouth and said fuck AI. There’s actually so many quadriplegic artists in the world painting beautiful art.

The mental gymnastics used to justify exploitation is laughable.

Every time an AI company complains that they would be bankrupted if they had to actually pay artists for the art they're dumping into their shitty generative engines, it just makes me root even harder for their complete and utter bankruptcy to actually happen.

Artists: your work is not 'content' - a fleeting blip of engagementainment. Your work is a labor of love. Give it the care it deserves and create the things YOU want to see.

You will never satiate the ravenous maw of social media. Stop feeding the maw and start feeding yourself.

Adobe Firefly, the 'ethical and commercially safe' AI generator, has been laundering data by using AI images from other platforms to train.

A 'relatively small' amount of 5% still amounts to literally millions of images. Firefly ISN'T ethical.
