Wobblebots, powered by the

I went to three schools in Delft to make wobblebots. You can see some cool ones made by kids in this YouTube video:

Kids made some cool tilt-activated LEDs today. I decided not to use a paper towel roll, like I showed in an earlier tweet, but to use a piece of wood instead. Worked pretty well, although getting the tilt switch to reliably connect with the tape in the circuit can be a challenge.

🖍️Looking for a fun simple project for kids who are new to the ? They can turn a few pieces of LEGO and a geekservo into a simple drawing machine that's easy to code with MakeCode for the micro:bit.

Looking for a way to display numbers like 22, 55 and 73 on the screen without scrolling?

You can add the WhaleySans Font extension to your Microsoft MakeCode projects, an idea from David Whale (micro:bit wizard).

See it in action in this YT video of a CBBC escape room: youtu.be/4ZinH3tybVU

🤖 Funny robot performing some tasks 🤖

The LEGO figure behind the handlebar is made by Thijs and Otis during one of my micro:bit/LEGO workshops.

I'm using the Wukong board of ELECFREAKS for four servomotors and the Game controller of Kitronik as remote control.

💡Tilt-activated LED💡

Turning a paper towel roll into a tilt lamp turns out to be pretty easy with a cheap tilt switch (SW-520D) and woven conductive tape of pimoroni.

I hope kids aged 6 to 11 will be able to make this. Maybe I need to help the young ones with the battery.

wobblebots

I finally found a way to make these funny creatures with a large group of kids. (My wooden version wasn't reusable and the LEGO Spike hub is too expensive.)

frames and don't always align correctly, but here it works fine using two gears.

LEGO 4-pole switch.

Inspired by the switch in the FLL Masterpiece Explore set. Building instructions can be found here:
lego.com/cdn/product-as… You have to modify it a little bit and add woven conductive tape to turn it into a switch.

plotter

Making a simple plotter with the new LEGO worm gear (part 73763) and two 270 degrees geek servos turns out to be possible. I really enjoyed making this 😄 I can even write the first letter of my name with it...

MAZE

Inspired by LEGO 40596 (Magic maze) and mazes made by Kevin and Hugo who joined my maze workshop in the spring.

By pressing A on the micro:bit you open the 'brigde', ABBA is the secret code for the gate and music plays when you close the circuit at the end.
