Interestingly, the last time I did this poll it was 71% of teachers who identified as Middle Class.

Now, it's two thirds.

A little extract from my thread on suicide in the construction industry.

The message all schools need to give to the kids who don't want to go to University.

Two types of people in this world:

Those who say happy birthday in the group chat, and those who drop a private message.

Might as well say a few bits about oracy whilst we're all at it:

- Standard English is not the only way to speak and nor should it be.

- Kids should be taught to code switch.

- Teachers should not be asked to change the way they say words

Oh, and swearing is powerful.

We certainly need to talk about oracy (or Tracy as my spellcheck insists on calling it)... Firstly, the meaning of oracy is contested and the teaching of it, therefore, can be a way in to a whole lot of other issues that need thinking about before a school 'does oracy'.

Paul Caden Mr Pink Can you afford to go skiing each year? Do you own your own house outright? Do you have savings? A second home? Do you have a trust fund? If no, you are working class

A few people have asked if I can collate all the masculinities threads I've started doing. Does anybody know of a good way to do this?

This is a good thread about mental health in the construction industry, particularly re: apprentices from Mr Pink.

I'll add that the membership bodies (@RICSnews, CIOB, CABE etc) do a lot of work on early engagement & are available to liaise with or speak in schools.

A really interesting and wide-ranging thread touching on everything from hypermasculinity to the role of universities. It also implicitly seems to make the case for some sort of grammar/secondary modern return. Geoff Norcott - this may be of interest.
