Hey IOs friends! Has the org that you study (or one you know of) adopted virtual for some/all of its meetings since COVID? (i.e., did not go fully back to having meetings in person)? (1/2)

Super excited to see my paper with Allison Carnegie & Ayse Kaya Orloff published online Journal of Politics @[email protected]. We explore whether and how populist governments engage with IOs. We show that while they bash IOs publicly, populists often engage constructively behind-the-scenes journals.uchicago.edu/doi/10.1086/72…

New article out with Bridget L. Coggins on why countries may strategically skip controversial votes in UNGA. We find that weak states and countries not allied with the US use this practice to avoid political blowback. Check it out here!

Raising tariffs on Chinese steel won't affect US inflation because it's a small part of overall US steel demand. True enough. For the same reason it won't help the US steel industry either, but we're in the territory of pure political symbolism here.

Had an incredible time this week The Masters with my dad. We walked with Tiger this morning and watched most of the field come through Amen Corner yesterday. Pictures don’t do Augusta justice. It’s a special place and an experience I’ll never forget!

🚨 In a new International Studies Quarterly piece, Terry Chapman and I look at the effects of IMF surveillance on natural resource governance. We find that developing countries like Guyana are more likely to create natural resource funds when the IMF advises them to do so doi.org/10.1093/isq/sq…
